Jamie Thomas-Ward, J.D., M.S., Director
Jamie is the Director of Pre-Law Advising Services, a position she has held since 2008. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She earned her Juris Doctor degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Northern Illinois University College of Law and was admitted to the Illinois bar in 2002. Jamie’s legal practice specialized in real estate transactions, corporate law, and municipal issues. After practicing law, she then obtained her Master of Science degree in Education (Illinois State University) to follow her passion for working in higher education. Jamie is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Political Science, teaching courses on the United States Supreme Court as well as an internship-based course she developed in collaboration with the Public Defender’s Office.
Jamie is currently serving as President-Elect of the Midwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors (MAPLA). She is also an active member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), through which she was honored to receive a 2011 Outstanding New Advisor Certificate of Merit. She is also a member of the American Bar Association and the East Central Illinois Women Attorneys’ Association.
In her free time, Jamie enjoys travel, Zumba, reading, and spending time with her husband and their dog. She also enjoys watching Mad Men, Parks & Recreation, and 30 Rock.
